We are dedicated to the art of winemaking in a unique biome since 1973, our vineyards are located in the red, deep and sand soils of Cerro Chapeu, on the border line between Uruguay and Brazil. Our philosophy is the low in-put winemaking in balance with the environment. The winery built in 1997 within a hill is based on gravity, which together with innovative oenological techniques and the family experience that characterizes us, result in unique wines.

Doctor in Chemistry in yeasts and wine aromas. From 1981 he played the role of
winemaker and participated in the management of Bodegas Carrau. In the 90s he
promoted the research and development area of ​​the company, whose innovations allowed
to open new export markets such as the United States, thus contributing to the
development of the prestige of Uruguayan wine in the world. He is currently closely
advising the Cerro Chapeu project.

1752 Gran Tradición Tannat-Cabernet Sauvignon-Arinarnoa

Cerro Chapeu is located on the soil formation called Batovi dorado, red and deep sandy soils of low fertility, considered the oldest in South America. Block T1 was identified years ago as the best Tannat of Cerro Chapeu.

This wine is made from the fruit of vines that are more than 35 years old. It is a tribute to the love of the people who have cared for them all this time.

Cerro Chapeu Tannat Viejas Viñas

In 1680 Margarita Ysern, from a vine-growers family, got married with Jaime Carrau, from a fishermen family of Vilassar de Mar. This union was the beggining of our family winemaking tradition in Catalunya.

Ysern it´s a blend of Tannat grapes from the two best blocks of Tannat in Cerro Chapeu estate.

This white wine was developed during a R&D programme aim to “Increasing yeast biodiversity in wine fermentation for increase flavour complexity”.

This wine is a Pet Nat of trebbiano and malvasia grapes from Cerro Chapeu estate.

Castel Pujol Folklore Pet Nat

Sparkling

Since 1930, Juan Carrau Sust winemaker of Villa Franca Penedes, was one of the pioneers in the development of craft sparkling wines by the “methode champenoise” in South America. The Sust Vintage Brut Nature, is vinified with handpicked Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes from Cerro Chapeu estate and it´s an homenage from Francisco Carrau to his grandfather.
